A catfish usually uses someone else's face. Trace compares that face against published photos and returns every match with a similarity score from 70 to 100. HOW IT WORKS
- Upload the profile photo. A screenshot is fine. Crop to one face looking toward the camera.
- Get a free preview. Trace searches the face and shows a blurred preview of the matches it actually found, so you know whether there is anything before you pay.
- Unlock and read the scores. One credit opens the sources: the page, the platform and the account where that face appears, each with a similarity score.
WHAT A CATFISH FINDER CATCHES
- A stolen photo under another name. The most common catfish. The same face on a model's portfolio, an influencer's account or another profile is the answer.
- The same person in a different photo. Because Trace measures the face rather than matching the file, it finds matches that Google Lens and Yandex miss when the scammer used a less-published picture.
- A face with no history. An AI-generated face appears nowhere. A flawless photo from someone describing a busy public life that matches nothing is itself a warning sign.
READING THE SCORE
- 90–100 — the band where genuine matches appear.
- 80–89 — strong resemblance. Confirm with a second photo before you decide anything.
- 70–79 — possible, but in practice most of this band is people who merely look alike.
- Below 70 — never shown. Searches with no genuine match topped out at 86, so showing anything under 70 would mean presenting dozens of strangers as "results".

PREVIEW FREE, PAY PER SEARCH
The preview costs nothing. Opening a search costs one credit; the smallest pack is five searches for $4. There is no subscription, nothing renews and credits never expire. Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or with Telegram Stars or crypto. The photo you upload is deleted after 30 days, or immediately when you delete the scan.

Is there a free catfish finder app?
Free image search tools like Google Lens, Yandex and TinEye can catch a stolen photo when the exact picture was published elsewhere, and they cost nothing. Finding the same face in a different photo takes face search, which is paid. Trace shows a blurred preview of what it found for free, so you can see whether there is anything before paying one credit to unlock it.
How can I tell if someone is catfishing me?
Search their profile photo: the same face under a different name is the clearest sign. Then ask for an unannounced video call with a specific request, such as holding up three fingers. Treat any request for money, gift cards or crypto from someone you have not met as conclusive on its own.
Is this person real?
A face search tells you whether that face appears on the public web and under which names. The same face on accounts consistent with their story is reassuring but not conclusive; the same face under another name means the photo is stolen; nothing at all is normal for a private person and a warning for someone describing a busy public life.
Will they know I checked their photo?
No. The search runs over publicly accessible pages; no notification is sent and their profile is not touched. You do not create an account on Trace, and the uploaded photo is deleted after 30 days or when you delete the scan.
Does it work with a screenshot?
Yes. Crop the screenshot to the face, ideally looking toward the camera and at least 200 pixels wide. Small, dark or side-on faces carry less information and return fewer matches.
